Have you ever opted out of the State Earnings Related Pension Scheme ? In the eighties a lot of Insurance Companies and  through media coverage enticed their Agents to sign up individuals to opt out of SERPS this was good advice at the time for certain individuals. We have cases where clients had no idea that they had indeed opted out of  SERPS until we advised them so, as we have a system as part of our Financial Services to check if  individuals have opted out, this can result in many cases of clients having a fund in a pension scheme that they had not realised.

The reason for this is the amount of Insurance Companies that have either demutualised or amalgamated and the lack of communication between the companies and their clients, also we find clients that have changed address or their name has changed  through marriage  have not informed there respective Insurance Companies,  or the clients have simply forgotten or did not  know about their SERPS contributions !
